11 years ago my kids were spending Friday night at their great-grandparents’ house which gave my wife and I some much needed R&R.

This particular evening we ended up on James Island at Jim Booth’s art gallery.
Jim is a legend for capturing the beauty and charm of the SC lowcountry. Check out his site at http://www.jimbooth.com/
I grew up seeing his paintings hanging on walls, but I had never seen him in person.
While my wife was looking at pictures for the living room I struck up a conversation with a gentleman.
You would have thought we were old friends as we shared stories.
We both had a love for the outdoors so a solid hour went by before we traded names.
It turned out that I was talking to the living legend himself, Mr. Jim Booth. We hit it off so well that he gave us a personal tour of the gallery.
Needless to say, we made a few sizable purchases that night and he wrote personal notes on each painting.
But the craziest story he told me that night was how the squirrels burnt down his art gallery.
Next to the art gallery is a massive oak tree that is over 100 years old.
This old oak tree supports an entire army of squirrels.
A few squirrels migrated into the attic under the cover of darkness and shorted out the electrical system which caused an attic fire.
Before the local fire department could arrive, the entire art gallery went up in flames.
What I thought was amazing was that after losing his life’s work he was more determined to keep going.
That’s the mindset that separates the real winners from everybody else.
Life will knock you down; it’s how you respond to it that makes us winners.
What has been your biggest challenge this week and how are you going to deal with it? Let me know.
